YOGA WITH FÁLKI

Fálki’s Yoga Journey

I started practicing physical yoga poses in 1996 because, I’ll be honest, I wanted a yoga body—that’s what got me there.

Very shortly after attending my first public yoga class in a side room of the Hickam Air Force Base fitness center, I turned my first cartwheel as an adult. It was a delicious taste of freedom inside my body. I credited yoga, and I never looked back. That was 30 years ago this year.

Things look different now.

I’m 56, and I haven’t turned a cartwheel in some time (though I do find my way into a hula hoop from time to time). I have much less interest in having a yoga body and more interest in maintaining mind/body/soul strength, balance, and flexibility. That’s why I practice, and that’s why I teach.
